The process of setting the new minimum wage, which directly affects more than 7 million workers and indirectly affects the entire society, continues.
The Commission for Determination of the Minimum Wage, whose first meeting took place on December 10, its second meeting on December 16 and its third meeting on December 19 at the invitation of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, will hold its fourth meeting this week.
The commission is expected to set the new minimum wage at its last meeting on Tuesday or Wednesday.
All eyes are on the employer's offer
After TÜRK-İŞ's request to first apply an inflation increase of 45 percent to the minimum wage, which is currently 17,000 2 lira net, and then add a social component of 20 percent to the resulting amount, all eyes turned to the employer's offer.
It was found that the employers' side, which seeks an increasing continuation of employers' support for the minimum wage this year, does not support TÜRK-İŞ's demand of 29,583 liras. The government's approach will be crucial in the negotiation process.
Possible increase scenarios
While TÜRK-İŞ's request for an increase corresponds to a 74 percent increase taking into account some publicly discussed increase scenarios, the estimated numbers for the new minimum wage are approximately as follows:
“With an increase of 30 percent net 22,000 103 lira
Net 22,000 953 lira with an increase of 35 percent
Net 23,000 803 lira with an increase of 40 percent
Net 24,000 653 lira with an increase of 45 percent
“With an increase of 50 percent, the net amount will be 25 thousand 503 lira.”
How is the minimum wage determined?
The minimum wage is determined by the Commission for Determination of the Minimum Wage, which consists of 15 persons, including five representatives of workers, employers and the government, as required by law.
The Commission will meet on the dates set in December as part of the new minimum wage studies.
The commission, chaired by a member appointed by the ministry, meets with the participation of at least 10 members and decides with a majority of votes. In the event of a tie, it is assumed that the party with the chairman has the majority.
The current minimum wage is 17,000 2 lira net
The minimum wage is currently 20,000 2 lira and 50 kuruş gross per month for an employee and 17,000 2 lira 12 kuruş net if deductions are reduced.
The total cost of the minimum wage for the employer is 23,502 lira and 94 kuruş for an employee. Of this, 20,000 2 lira and 50 cents go to the gross minimum wage, 3,000 100 lira and 39 cents to social security contributions and 400 lira and 5 cents to the employer's unemployment insurance fund.
