Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a written statement about Türksat 6A, which was launched into space on July 9, 2024.
Noting that the satellite, which was officially put into service on April 21, 2025, continues its mission in the orbit at 42 degrees East, Minister Uraloğlu said: “Türksat 6A, which we produced at a local production rate of over 80 percent, has become an important milestone for our country's space and communications capacity with its large coverage area.”
“We valued locality and nationality”
Stating that the work in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure for Türksat 6A began on December 15, 2014 and lasted about 10 years, Minister Uraloğlu reminded that the work began with the opening of the Space Systems Integration and Test Center (USET), which was established in TAI facilities on May 21, 2015 in cooperation with Türksat and the Defense Industry Presidency (SSB).
Emphasizing that they attach importance to locality and nationality within the framework of the Türksat 6A project, Minister Uraloğlu said: “84 domestic and national satellite equipments were manufactured for our satellite, in which we achieved a localization rate of over 80 percent. Components manufactured by TÜBİTAK UZAY, ASELSAN, CTech and TUSAŞ were tested and integrated into the satellite.”
We launched our satellite, which successfully passed all tests, on July 9, 2024 from the Space-X facilities at Cape Canaveral Cosmodrome in Florida, USA. On February 17, 2025, we conducted the first test transmission of our satellite, which reached its final mission orbit at 42 degrees east longitude on December 28, 2024. “With this, we have made our country one of the 11 countries in the world capable of designing and producing communications satellites with Türksat 6A,” he said.
Recalling that Türkiye's satellite adventure began with the Türksat 1B satellite in 1994, Minister Uraloğlu said: “Today, Türksat is among the world's satellite operators with 6 active satellites in orbits of 31, 42 and 50 degrees. Türksat 6A operates in geosynchronous orbit and provides important services such as television broadcasting and emergency communications in a wide geographical area. Thanks to Türksat 6A, satellites.” The transmission of television programs can be secured.” “The service capacity offered by Türksat has also increased,” he said.
Stating that with Türksat 6A, they have expanded Türkiye's coverage area to the remotest corners of the world, Minister Uraloğlu said, “We have combined our sovereignty in our space homeland with our ability to export technology. Today, Türksat is not only a satellite operator, but also a preferred and trusted technology brand abroad. 50 channels from Freesat Lanka, the leading platform of Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia as well Sri Lanka included in the scope of Turksat 6A.” “Today, we provide broadcast services for 69 television channels in 10 countries in the South Asian region only through Türksat 6A. All of our TÜRKSAT satellites now reach a population of 5.5 billion people in 111 countries,” he said.
“The growth in broadcasters based abroad is at a record level”
Stating that the total number of television channels broadcast on Türksat satellites reached 532, reaching the highest level in 10 years, Minister Uraloğlu said: “The South Asian expansion through the commissioning of Türksat 6A satellite brought Türksat's growth momentum in the global broadcasting market to a historic record, while the number of channels broadcast on Türksat satellites increased by 20 percent in just one year. The increase in the number of channels based abroad reached a Record level 50 percent in 5 years.” “It happened,” he said.
Minister Uraloğlu also stated that the number of foreign channels, which was 114 at the end of 2020, increased to 171 by the end of 2025 and with this increase, the export volume of Türkiye satellite services reached a record level.
Stating that the Protocol for Financial Support to Türksat 7A within the framework of Türksat's goal of increasing its communications capacity in space was signed between Türksat and the Transport, Maritime and Communications Research Center of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure on June 19, 2025, Uraloğlu stated that the Protocol established the framework of support to be provided by the Ministry to the construction process of Türksat 7A.
Minister Uraloğlu explained that the Türksat 7A project started because the service life of the Türksat 3A satellite, which operates in the 42 degree eastern orbit, is nearing the end. He said: “This satellite, which we plan to enter into service in 2029, will be the carrier of Türkiye's digital future vision with its higher data capacity, stronger coverage area and flexible resource management capability. After its entry into service, it will continue to exist as a strong symbol of our country's independence in space.”
