According to the US-based news site Axios, which relies on an unnamed senior US official, the US and Iran have agreed to stop attacks against each other and planned to meet in Qatar on June 30 to resolve the dispute over the Strait of Hormuz.
Another U.S. official said both sides would refrain from attacks “for now” and that “ships can move freely” as technical talks, the first of which took place in Switzerland last week, continue.
According to a source familiar with the talks, the talks scheduled for June 30 were initially scheduled to take place in Switzerland to discuss technical issues regarding Iran's nuclear program. However, as tensions rose, the talks moved elsewhere and focused on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to Iranian state television, the official said: “The technical meeting has been cancelled.”
On the other hand, Mehdi Fezaili, a member of the Office for the Preservation and Dissemination of the Works of the Iranian Revolutionary Leader, said in his statement to state television that Iran did not participate in the meeting with the US at the technical delegation level scheduled for today.
Fezaili explained that the reason for this is that the US continues its attacks against Iran and no concrete steps are being taken to release frozen assets.
Following the agreement reached between Iran and the US on June 14, high-level meetings between the parties were held in Switzerland on June 21, after which discussions between technical delegations continued. The June 23 statement said technical discussions would take place again next week, but did not give a specific date.
For two days there have been clashes between Iran and the USA around the Strait of Hormuz.
