Elder spoke at the United Nations (UN) Geneva office's weekly press conference on the situation in the Gaza Strip, which is affected by Israeli attacks and blockades.
Pointing out that the so-called ceasefire in Gaza has become a cruel and deadly illusion for Palestinian children, Elder said: “Since the ceasefire was declared in October 2025, 265 Palestinian children have been killed across the Gaza Strip,” he said.
“This week a two-year-old baby was shot dead by Israeli forces.”
Stressing that children were killed in their homes and schools while playing soccer or fishing, Elder said families in Gaza continued to bury their sons and daughters despite the world speaking the language of the ceasefire.
“When a child is killed every day, the debate should no longer be about the quality of the ceasefire, but rather the credibility of calling it a ceasefire.” In his testimony, Elder noted that a 2-year-old baby was shot dead by Israeli forces this week.
Elder emphasized that 400 children were injured in Gaza during this period and said hundreds of children needed urgent medical evacuation.
