Patents and standards play an important role in the field of computer science, especially mobile communication systems.
Research shows that one of the main factors that determine countries' ability to innovate is the intellectual industrial rights that arise from R&D studies and related patent applications.
While patents play an important role in determining technology trends, increased patent protection directly contributes to the economic development of countries.
When examining patents in the field of 5G technologies, it can be seen that China (Huawei, ZTE, CATT, MediaTek, China Mobile), South Korea (Samsung, LG Electronics), Sweden (Ericsson), Finland (Nokia), USA (Notable is that (NTT Docomo, NEC) dominates the patent families.
The work on 6G is strategically important
The creation of patent families, especially for 6G, in the field of information and communication technologies in Turkey is of strategic importance.
For this reason, ULAK Communication Inc. has developed a business model that prioritizes the creation of intellectual and industrial property rights for 6G through research studies conducted on the basis of university-industry collaboration.
The aim is to create patent families for mobile communication systems, to standardize them, to market them under license or to bring them into production under our own brands.
It is envisaged that the effective creation of the ULAK patent pool and its marketing abroad will pave the way for ULAK to become a global player in the field of mobile communications technologies.
In this context, a pioneering research laboratory in the field of communication technologies “6G and beyond” will be established within ULAK in the second half of the year with the support of TÜBİTAK.
The laboratory conducts a wide range of fundamental research in the areas of public safety and intelligent transportation, particularly non-terrestrial network technologies where satellite and mobile communication systems work together.
The research is expected to make a major contribution to the development of domestic and national technologies in 6G and beyond.
