Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made statements about Türksat 6A, which was launched into space on July 9, 2024.
Uraloğlu reminded that Türksat 6A was put into commercial service on April 21, 2025 in the presence of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after the successful completion of orbital tests: “Türkiye's first domestic and national communications satellite, Türksat 6A, continues its mission in space without interruption. Türksat 6A, our country's domestic signature in space, has 192 million kilometers exceeded.” he said.
Uraloğlu stated that Türkiye has strengthened its presence in the space homeland and is continuing its efforts to further strengthen it. In this context, the processes for Türksat 7A would have accelerated.
Uraloğlu pointed out that Türksat 6A, with its wide coverage area, is an important milestone for Türkiye's space and communications capacity, and continued as follows:
“Türksat 6A, which was implemented with the joint effort of hundreds of Turkish engineers, researchers and local industrial organizations, especially TÜBİTAK UZAY, TUSAŞ, Aselsan, CTech and TÜRKSAT, left 437 days of service, is not only a technological success, but also Türkiye's position in the global satellite market. In addition, it has raised its competitiveness to a whole new dimension.”
“The number of channels broadcast via TURKSAT satellites has increased by 20 percent within a year.”
Pointing out that the eastern coverage has expanded significantly with the satellite having western and eastern coverage areas, Uraloğlu said that by including India, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia in the coverage area, the population that TÜRKSAT satellites can reach worldwide has increased from 3.5 billion to 5 billion.
Stating that with this development, the number of television channels, especially those based abroad, has increased significantly, Uraloğlu made the following assessment:
“While the expansion into South Asia achieved with the launch of the Türksat 6A satellite brought TÜRKSAT's growth momentum in the global broadcasting market to a historic record level, the number of channels broadcast via TÜRKSAT satellites increased by 20 percent in just one year.
Uraloğlu stated that the distance of 192 million kilometers covered by Türksat 6A, which is continuously monitored and managed in space by TÜRKSAT, is equivalent to 500 times the average distance between the Earth and the Moon and 250 round trips on an astronomical scale, and that the same range exceeds the distance of 150 million kilometers between the Earth and the Sun and 3.5 times the closest distance between the Earth and Mars approximately 55 million kilometers. He explained that it corresponded.
Drawing attention to Türksat 6A's localization rate, Uraloğlu said:
“While Turksat 6A was put into service with a localization rate of over 80 percent, 84 critical devices, all derived from the work of domestic industry, have successfully operated in difficult space conditions for 10,416 hours without errors and without interruption since the first day of the satellite's commissioning. Thanks to this project, which has a mission life of at least 15 years, Turkey has become one of the 11 outstanding countries in the world that design, develop, produce and can test.” and operate its own communications satellite in orbit.” Rose.”
