“Turkiye will become a satellite export country with satellite 6A”

Hasan Hüseyin Ertok, General Manager of Türksat, at AIX 2024 (Aircraft Interiors Expo), one of the leading exhibitions of the aviation industry held in Hamburg, Germany, Turkish Cabin Interior Inc., a subsidiary of Turkish Airlines (THY). (TCI) made statements following the signing of the In-Flight Internet Services Cooperation Protocol between Türksat and AJet.

Ertok described the signed cooperation as “very important” and said that AJet is Turkey’s newest airline and will have a significant fleet in the coming period.

Sharing the information that Türksat, in cooperation with TCI, will provide broadband internet services via satellite to the aircraft of the AJet fleet, Ertok stated that the TÜRKSAT 5B satellite will be mainly used in the aircraft, and the KA-band capacity of other satellites will be used in certain regions of Europe.

“We ensure that our passengers have uninterrupted and convenient access to the Internet.”

Ertok stressed that this service will increase to up to 20 megabits in the coming years and that this is an important speed for the aircraft, and continued:

“From now on, we will ensure that our passengers on the AJet fleet have uninterrupted and comfortable access to the Internet. We are now living in the Internet age. We all want access to the Internet, even on very short flights, and we have that.” We have made a great collaboration to provide this via Türksat satellites as a broadband Internet service. “There are of course important players here who have been working for many years, but now with the development of technology and the creation of capacities.” “We want to create a partnership that can do this job worldwide from our country with satellite operators, satellite operators like us who have new satellites added to their fleets, and with partners like TCI who can provide these services.”

Ertok pointed out that AJet is the first step in this field and stated that this is an important step for the TCI-Türksat partnership to offer satellite internet to various airlines and aircraft around the world from now on.

“We will launch the domestically produced satellite 6A in July”

Türksat Director General Ertok said that they have five satellites in their fleet and recalled that they will launch the domestically produced satellite 6A in July and add it to the fleet.

Ertok pointed out that owning a fleet of six satellites is an important size for a regional satellite operator, saying: “In the coming years, we will work to expand our coverage area and increase our capacity, especially in the Ka-band broadband area. We have aging satellites in our satellite fleet and we will work to renew them.” “In the next five years, we will make new satellite investments to provide Ka-band and broadband internet services in a larger area and with higher capacity,” he said.

Ertok recalled that it is an operator that offers services in GEO orbit (geostationary) and said that they continue to work on agreements that will also offer services from low orbits and include them in their service portfolio.

Ertok stressed that after adding these points, they will become a satellite operator that can serve its customers from different orbits.

“We are able to provide satellite production services to countries in our nearby region.”

Stating that Turkey is proud of the satellite production stage it has reached with 6A, Ertok explained that various observation satellites had been produced before 6A and that more of these satellites would be produced from now on.

Hasan Hüseyin Ertok continued his words as follows:

“In particular, our organizations operating in this field in Turkey, such as TAI and TUBITAK Space, have gained very important experience. Especially with the 6A satellite, we now have the opportunity to provide satellite production services to countries close to us in the next phase.” Geography, especially regionally, based in Turkey. USET (Space Systems) at TAI “Our integration and test center facility is a very important facility. We made a significant financial contribution to it 10 years ago. We are at a time when the products we will produce in this facility can be offered to different satellite operators in different countries.”

“Our country will also reach a very important level in this area”

Türksat Director General Hasan Hüseyin Ertok stated that the TÜRKSAT 6A satellite is the first domestically produced communications satellite project in Turkey and said, “With this satellite, Turkey will truly become a satellite exporting country in the coming years.”

Ertok pointed out the importance of increasing young people's interest in space in Turkey and concluded his remarks as follows.

“With the Space Agency, together with Turkey's space goals, we will develop more projects in this field. Developing more projects means that we will have more human resources. Engineers are people who are actually more satisfied with the projects they do and the things they produce. This basically applies to all of us. O Therefore, the increase in such projects in our country will enable companies like us to increase them and provide more education to our young people in this field, which will enable us to train more important human resources. If we continue our projects and investments in this regard, our country will reach a very important level in this field.
