Türkiye continues to produce patents for 6G

Prof. is the only academician from Turkey among 169 inventor academicians selected from around the world by the US National Academy of Inventors (NAI) to be honored as “Oscar of the Academy” in 2022 due to his innovative studies in the field wireless communication applies. Dr. Hüseyin Arslan answered your questions on the “32. Congress on Signal Processing and Communication Applications” organized by Tarsus University.

Arslan, who also serves as dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science at Istanbul Medipol University, said Turkey cannot produce enough 5G technology compared to the world.

Explaining that there are cooperations with local network manufacturers for product development in the field of 5G, Arslan explained that studies are continuing in various areas.

Arslan pointed out that all the work carried out under 5G is preparation for 6G technology, saying: “One of the new functions established on the basis of 5G Release 15 is the basic structure of 5G. 16 is a minor one.” While 17-18 was now 19, on the one hand we say: “We constructed the basis of 5G incorrectly. Let's create a new basis for 6G.” good vision, but this vision is not yet ready for our age “There will also be new entrants,” he said.

Every aspect of life will be “smart” with 6G

Arslan explained that humanity may encounter some innovations in 6G technology:

“Integration with radar technologies means that networks are not just terrestrial but also spatial networks; we will be able to see different networks such as satellites, unmanned aerial vehicles, drones. In space, on land, under water, underground. Rather than the same type of terrestrial networks, we will be able to connect different networks together so that 6G can access information on the ground and increase its speed to simultaneously collect location, environment, people and health information On the one hand, receiving and sending information to integrate it into vehicles, to integrate the technology that can develop the vision that makes everything smarter and more digital, such as traffic, urban planning, transportation, production, health, network, electricity. We're talking about technology that can do that.

“The world is in a race for 6G”

Prof. Dr. Arslan emphasized that awareness of 6G in Turkey should be increased and said:

“The world is excited about 6G technology. Many research and development institutions in universities and companies have started serious work on 6G. Collaborations were made and funds were created. The world has entered a race for 6G. Since I returned to Turkey, no one has said “Although I didn't speak, I talked about 6G because I knew we were too late for 5G. The research and development process takes place 20 years before what the user sees and experiences. You have to anticipate what this technology can do and what users want while no one is using it yet. My first task was to raise this awareness.

“If we fill our pockets with 400-500 patents, we will be among the top 5-6 companies in the world.”

Regarding Turkey's preparations for 6G technology, Arslan said:

“For 6G, we have formed a team with ULAK İletişim AŞ, Vestel and companies. We have united many universities such as Koç University and Middle East Technical University. We built an ecosystem instead of working in a dispersed manner. This ecosystem now aims to collaborate, support each other and strengthen collaboration between universities and industry. This is an ecosystem that aims to bring technology to Turkey and develop research and development that companies have been working with the world two to three years ago related to 6G. If we fill our pockets with 400-500 patents before the standards come into effect, we will become one of the top 5-6 companies in the world “I used to be unable to get into 6G, but now I'm into 6G.” We continue our work towards this goal.”
