ULAK Communication Inc. presented its recently developed national technology solutions at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2024) in Barcelona, Spain.
ULAK Communication Inc. Research and Development Director Erdem Demircioğlu said that the company is preparing for 6G technologies at the same time as the world while working on productization in the areas of LTE and 5G.
Stating that the whole world is working to develop patents and enabling technologies for 6G technologies, Demircioğlu said that at the event it was seen that companies that compete with ULAK or similar companies were working on the same issues.
Stating that they have developed ideas on basic technologies for 6G, produced and patented technologies within ULAK, Demircioğlu emphasized that they submitted more than 50 patent applications last year and those whose relevant processes were completed received patent certificates.
“We will put the laboratory into operation in Ankara in 2024”
Stating that they believe they have created a good ecosystem with a competent team and that this is a first in Turkey, Demircioğlu pointed out that they intend to continue this work in the next generation of R&D activities . Demircioğlu stated that they want to establish a breakthrough research and development laboratory for 6G and beyond technologies in Ankara as one of the key pillars of this effort:
“We have applied to TÜBİTAK and other funds for this laboratory and received our preliminary approvals. We will put this laboratory into operation in Ankara in 2024. This laboratory will also contribute to the creation and development of our products. For example, the UAV Pod is a non-terrestrial network technology product. This will accelerate our work in the laboratory on UAVs, high-altitude flight platforms or satellite technologies, which we call “HAPS”. The target for 6G is 2030. Standardization studies are being carried out. The launch is planned for 2026-2027. As ULAK, our goal is 400 when these standardization studies begin. “Being involved in these studies with more than 100,000 patents. With this study, which is being carried out for the first time in Turkey, it will be ensured that the 6G technologies are developed in such a way that the intellectual property rights remain in our country.”
Stating that there are many work areas based on vertical applications in 6G, 5G and later, from autonomous vehicles to smart home systems, from satellite technologies to healthcare applications, Demircioğlu made the following assessments:
“With 5G and later, especially 6G, maintaining information security and ensuring reliable human-machine and machine-to-machine communications will be critical for countries and companies. Companies that provide this technological infrastructure will also be able to realize vertical applications and come to the fore. Broadband communications infrastructure will be to the 21st century what electricity was to the 20th century. If you don't have broadband internet, many vehicles won't work in your home or around you. ULAK will propose solutions that will produce national solutions in 6G, prioritize information security, turn the sweat of Turkish engineers into sweat, patent them and say that Turkey is the owner of the technology. “The economic return for our country will also increase through patents.”
