TÜBİTAK sky watching event will be held in Afyonkarahisar

Minister Kacır shared a post about the TÜBİTAK sky watching event on his Nsocial account.

Stating that they will meet in Afyonkarahisar between August 12 and 15 this year for the TÜBİTAK Sky Observation Event, one of Türkiye's most established astronomy events, Kacır gave the following assessment:


“At the event, where we will meet sky enthusiasts in a unique atmosphere, we will explore the sky during the day with astronomy lectures, science and technology workshops, and point our telescopes at the stars at night. We are waiting for everyone who wants to observe the stars, constellations, planets and the Milky Way during the peak period of the Perseid meteor shower.”

The participants are determined by lottery.

The ministry's statement on the matter noted that applications for the 28th TÜBİTAK Sky Observation Event at Emre Lake in the Phrygia Region, which is characterized by the historical and natural beauties of Afyonkarahisar, can be submitted on July 19 through the address “gge.tubitak.gov.tr”.

The statement said participants will have the opportunity to safely observe the Sun during daylight hours using special filter telescopes and made the following statements:

“At night, planets, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies and the Perseid meteor shower can be studied using telescopes in the sky, away from light pollution, under the guidance of experts. The event will also provide participants with a rich scientific experience with interactive presentations, academic interviews and workshops on science from scientists who are experts in their fields. Those who qualify to participate in the event will be determined using the scoring system and lottery method from among applications from all fields Türkiye.
