Trump: The Americans have no closer friends than the British

US President Trump and his wife Melania Trump received England's King Charles III. and his wife Queen Camilla with a well-attended ceremony in the White House garden using the highest level of protocol.

During the visit, which came at a time when there were disagreements between the US and Britain on some political issues, particularly on Iran, Trump and King Charles accompanied the two countries' national anthems after greeting military units in the ceremonial area.

Later, Trump took the podium and in his speech emphasized the historic ties and deep-rooted relations between the two countries, saying, “It is a great honor to welcome you here.” he said.

Trump noted that this year marks the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence and said that while this may sound a bit “ironic,” Americans are still very proud of their British roots.

“Americans have no closer friends than the British.” Trump emphasized in his statement that relations between the two countries remain very strong.

Trump and King Charles, who greeted military troops after the ceremony, are expected to continue their programs at the White House, closed to the press.

King Charles will also address the joint session of the US Congress today. This speech marks the second time a British monarch has addressed Congress, after Queen Elizabeth II in 1991.

The visit in question includes King Charles meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House, attending an official dinner and speaking at a joint session of the US Congress.
