In his interview with the Wall Street Journal, Trump commented on possible candidates for the head of the Fed.
Trump said he was inclined to choose former Fed board member Kevin Warsh or White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett as the next Fed chairman, noting that Warsh was at the top of his list.
“There's Kevin and Kevin. I think both Kevins are great. There are a few others that are great,” Trump said. he said.
Trump stated that Warsh believes interest rates should be lowered and said that everyone else he has spoken to has the same opinion.
Trump stressed that the new Fed chairman should consult with him about setting interest rates, saying: “That's not normally done anymore,” he said.
When asked where he would like interest rates to be in a year, Trump said: “1 percent and maybe lower.” he said.
Trump stressed that interest rate cuts would help reduce the cost of financing the country's $30 trillion national debt and stated that the United States should have the lowest interest rates in the world.

President Trump answered a question about what role he would like to play in the Fed's interest rate decisions at a signing ceremony at the White House.
Trump stated that he was very successful and made a lot of money and explained that his role should at least be to “give advice.”
Trump said: “You don't have to follow exactly what I say. But we will be electing a new Fed chair in the fairly near future. I definitely think I should have a role in talking to the head of the Fed or the Fed.” he said.
Trump pointed out that such things used to happen and noted that it is no longer frowned upon.
Trump said: “I think my voice needs to be heard, but I'm not going to make the decision on that basis. I'll make a decision in the next few weeks.” gave his assessment.
