“Trump” removed from name of Washington performing arts center

Matt Floca, director of the Performing Arts Center, told the federal court that the court order had been complied with.

Floca said that all physical signs bearing President Trump's name in the Kennedy Center building and campus have been removed.

Name change from “Kennedy Center”

The White House announced in December 2025 that the name of the Kennedy Center, one of Washington's iconic venues, would be changed to the Trump-Kennedy Center, and subsequently the word “Trump” was added to the building and the venue's website.

There was then a reaction from the art scene and the musician Chuck Redd, who had performed at the “Kennedy Center” since 2006, withdrew from his concert on Christmas Eve.

On the other hand, Trump announced in February that the center would close on July 4 while construction of the new entertainment complex would begin as part of two-year renovations.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ruled on May 30 to remove the word “Trump” from the name of the Trump John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
