Trump shared on his social media account the announcement by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) that there had been an attack on warships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Three U.S. Army destroyers passed through the Strait of Hormuz “under fire very successfully.” Trump continued:
“All three destroyers remained undamaged, but major damage was inflicted on the Iranian attackers. They were completely destroyed and sank in the sea, along with a large number of smaller boats that served as replacements for their completely destroyed navy.”
Trump claimed that there were missile and drone attacks on US destroyers, but that they were “easily shot down.”
Arguing that Iran is “run by crazy people,” Trump said: “If they had the chance to use nuclear weapons, they would use them without hesitation, but they will never have such an opportunity. Just as we defeated them again today, if they don't sign their deal quickly, we will defeat them much harder and more violently in the future.” He explained:
Trump noted that these three destroyers and their crews would “rejoin the naval blockade.”
Fox News claimed in its report, which was based on a senior US official, that the US army had carried out airstrikes on the Iranian port of Qeshm and Bandar Abbas, but this “does not mean that the ceasefire is over for the US.”
CENTCOM claimed in its statement on the US Army's airstrikes against the port of Qeshm and Bandar Abbas that Iran launched attacks “without provocation” on US naval units traveling through the Strait of Hormuz toward the Gulf of Oman and that they responded to these attacks “for defensive purposes.”
