According to the statement from THY's Communications Directorate, the text of the agreement was signed at the ceremony in Geneva by THY's Chairman and Executive Committee, Ahmet Bolat, and South African Airways Managing Director, John Lamola.
Bolat, whose views were expressed in the statement, explained that as flagships of the two countries, with the agreement they will offer their guests the opportunity to benefit from more comprehensive travel options and that he is convinced that the cooperation will not only take place in the commercial field, but will also bring significant benefits to the deep-rooted cultural and tourism ties between the countries.

South African Airways CEO Lamola also noted that they see the agreement as a strategic move to expand reliable and competitive air services for their passengers.

The code-sharing agreement, which will come into force on March 1, 2026, aims to deepen commercial cooperation between the two companies and provide more travel alternatives to guests of both airlines.
Under the agreement, reciprocal codesharing will be possible on South African Airways' Johannesburg-Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Windhoek, Harare, Victoria Falls and Mauritius routes, as well as THY's Istanbul-Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Frankfurt, Paris and London routes.
