The jet that took off from Ankara-Esenboğa Airport to Tripoli, carrying Libya's Chief of General Staff General Muhammed Ali Al-Haddad, crashed into the mountainous terrain in Kesikkavak village of Haymana district for unknown reasons.
Gendarmerie, fire brigade and medical teams were dispatched to the area after reports that the plane crashed in the mountainous region of Kesikkavak village in Haymana district.
Due to the muddy area, the teams conducted the search on foot and reached the wreckage of the plane. The teams' work on the rubble continues.
An investigation into the plane crash was launched by the Ankara Prosecutor General's Office appointing four prosecutors under the coordination of a deputy prosecutor general.
Message of condolence from Libyan Prime Minister Dibeybe
Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Accord Abdulhamid Dibeybe released a message of condolence for Libyan Chief of General Staff Muhammed al-Haddad and his accompanying delegation on the plane that crashed in Ankara.
In his message posted on his social media account, Dibeybe said: “It is with great sadness and sadness that we received the news that the Chief of General Staff of the Libyan Army Muhammed El-Haddad and the Commander of the Land Forces Feyturi el-Grabil, the Commander of the Military Production Facility Brigadier General Mahmud Al-Katavi, the Chief of the General Staff Adviser Muhammed Asavi Diyab, the General Staff Press Photographer Muhammed Mahcub died in a tragic accident while returning from her official visit to Ankara.” he said.
Prime Minister Dibeybe added the following statements in his message:
“This (accident) is a great loss for the homeland, military institutions and all Libyans. We have lost people who served their country with sincerity and dedication and were an example of discipline, responsibility and national loyalty.”
We express our deepest condolences and condolences to the families of our martyrs and their comrades in the armed forces. “We pray to God Almighty to grant them his great mercy, to welcome them into his vast paradise and to give patience and comfort to their families and loved ones.”
National mourning is declared in Libya
The Libyan Government of National Accord declared three days of national mourning over the death of Libyan Chief of General Staff Mohammed al-Haddad and his accompanying delegation in the plane crash in Ankara.
The Government of National Accord's written statement said the government expressed its sincere condolences to the families of Haddad and his entourage who were on the crashed plane, as well as to his comrades in the Libyan Armed Forces.
The statement, which noted that mourning had been declared throughout the country (three days) due to the death of Haddad and his accompanying delegation, made the following statements:
“During this (three-day) period, flags in all government institutions will be lowered to half-mast and all official and ceremonial events will be suspended. This decision was made due to the death of the Chief of General Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General Muhammad Al-Haddad, and his friends in a tragic accident while returning from an official mission in Ankara Province of the Republic of Turkey.”
The statement also said that Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dibeybe had ordered the Libyan Defense Ministry to send an official delegation to Ankara to coordinate directly with Turkish authorities and investigate the circumstances of the incident.
Independence Day celebrations were scheduled to take place in Libya on December 24-25, commemorating the 74th anniversary of the country's liberation from Italian occupation.
