According to the US State Department, the new sanctions target the family members of Maduro's nephew Carlos Erik Malpica Flores, who was added to the sanctions list on December 11, as well as the family members of Panamanian businessman Ramon Carretero Napolitano, who is allegedly linked to the Maduro government.
The statement said those sanctioned included Maduro's sister-in-law, other relatives of Malpica Flores and two close family members of Carretero. “The Trump administration is committed to destroying the network of people supporting Maduro and his regime.” The expression was used.
Details of the sanctions in question were also included in the statement from the US Treasury Department.
The statement reported that Malpica's mother Eloisa Flores de Malpica, father Carlos Evelio Malpica Torrealba, sister Iriamni Malpica Flores, wife Damaris del Carmen Hurtado Perez and daughter Erica Patricia Malpica Hurtado were on the sanctions list.
It was also noted that two of Napolitano's relatives, Roberto Carretero Napolitano and Vicente Luis Carretero Napolitano, were also added to the list.
