According to Kyodo News, Minister Hegseth, who visited Japan on the first trip to Asia, met Nakatani in the capital Tokyo.
Hegseth explained that the two countries are against China's “aggressive and convincing” attitudes against China and described Japan as a “indispensable partner”.
Hegseth and Nakatani agreed to accelerate the production of SM-6 flight defense rockets with the early production of air wires with medium range.
The Minister of Defense, who agreed to further strengthen the military cooperation between the two countries, pointed out how important it is to protect peace and stability in Taiwan.
According to a statement by the Japanese government, Hegseth also held a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Isiba Şigeru in the following hours.
During the meeting, Hegseth and İşiba shared the goal of implementing the vision of “free and open Indo-Pacific”, which is an indirect message against China.
