The transition to domestic technology that began with 4.5G will accelerate with 5G

It has been eight years since Turkey introduced 4.5G technology, which provides high mobile internet speeds. Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu evaluated the process in question.

Recalling that digital cellular services in Turkey began with 2G (GSM) in 1994, Uraloğlu said that the 2G services that began with Turkcell and Telsim (now known as Vodafone) were joined by two more operators (Aria and Aycell) These two operators later became Avea. He explained that they were merged (the current name is TT Mobil).

Stating that mobile broadband Internet service was expanded throughout the country by three operators with the 3G approval in 2009, Uraloğlu said:

“With LTE technology emerging in the following years after 3G, 4G services began to appear around the world. Efforts to authorize this service in our country continue, and currently there are tenders for the authorization of 4.5G services that support LTE Advanced technology that can do this.” The company has been promised higher data speeds than 4G (LTE ) assigned. The call for proposals took place on April 1, 2016. Compared to 3G, 4.5G offers much faster data and internet connection, uninterrupted communication with low latency, high image quality, better advantages such as coverage, use of cloud computing technology, real-time data exchange, fast and high-quality communication in video conferencing and Teleconferencing, advanced multimedia integration, remote access to data, cost reduction, efficient use of resources and time saving. Currently, there are over 92 million subscribers in our country, of which about 85 million are active 4.5G subscribers, that is, the number of subscribers whose devices and SIM cards are suitable for 4.5G service is 69 million 562,000 475, the number of 4.5G compatible devices is 72 million 529,000. 185 were identified.

“Efforts continue to be made to ensure a higher level of localization in 5G authorization studies.”

Minister Uraloğlu said that the aim is to create a local and national mobile technology ecosystem with the 4.5G approval, which imposes the obligation on operators to use domestic products at certain tariffs.

Recalling the obligations imposed on operators, Uraloğlu said that the total software and hardware investments related to the network should be at least 30 percent in the first year, at least 40 percent in the second year and at least 45 percent in the third year in the following period Domestic certified products, and at least he explained that they are obliged to provide 10 percent of SMEs in Turkey.

Minister Uraloğlu said, “The work will continue under the coordination of our ministry and institution to ensure a higher level of localization in the 5G approval studies that are currently being prepared,” said.
