According to information compiled by the Information Technology and Communications Authority (BTK) from the “Turkish Electronic Communications Sector Quarterly Market Data Report,” fiber optic internet usage in the country is becoming more widespread day by day.
Due to the continuous development of technological products and the use of Internet technologies in many areas of life, the number of fiber optic Internet subscribers in Türkiye exceeded 10 million this year.
According to the data, the total number of fiber optic customers was 8.3 million in the first quarter of 2025. This number reached 10.3 million in the first quarter of the year. Within a year, 2 million new subscribers in Turkey were introduced to fiber optic Internet technology.
Comparing the periods under consideration, the number of “Fibre-to-the-Home” subscribers was around 7.1 million in the first three months of 2025 and reached 9.1 million this year. This means the number of fiber-to-the-home subscribers increased by 29 percent. The number of Fiber to the Building subscribers fell from 1.2 million to 1.1 million over the same period.
The fiber length was almost 700,000 kilometers
With the increase in the number of subscribers and the high demand for fiber optics, the length of fiber optic cables has also increased significantly within a year.
While the operators' fiber length was 617,000,765 kilometers at the end of the first quarter of 2025, it increased to 696,606,000 kilometers at the end of the first quarter of this year.
The number of cable Internet subscribers exceeded 1.5 million
The number of mobile Internet subscribers also increased by 4 percent compared to the previous year. While there were 74.5 million mobile Internet subscribers in January-March 2025, this number reached almost 77.5 million in January-March 2026.
The increase in the number of cable Internet subscribers has been more limited. While the number of subscribers using the technology in question was close to 1.5 million in the first quarter of last year, this year it exceeded 1.5 million and reached 1 million 513 thousand.
