The number of 5G subscribers exceeded 43 million

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu evaluated the Turkish Electronic Communications Sector Quarterly Market Data Report for the First Quarter of the Year prepared by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK).

Stating that the number of operators operating in the field of electronic communications in the January-March period reached 416 and the number of permits issued to these operators reached 782, Uraloğlu said that after the 5G service permit tender held on October 16, 2025, the number of 5G subscribers put into service nationwide on April 1 increased to over 43 million.

Uraloğlu pointed out that investments supporting rapid expansion continue unabated and continued as follows:


“In line with the high speed, low latency and increased data capacity requirements that 5G brings, operators have increased their investments to strengthen both their mobile networks and their fiber optic infrastructures. If we include the costs incurred in the 5G tender in the investment calculations, the total investment amount of companies in the field of electronic communications, especially investments in high-performance mobile communications, reached 263 billion lira in the first quarter of 2026. This increased The investment amount in question increased by 1300 percent compared to the first quarter of 2025.”

Türkiye is the country with the longest mobile phone calls

Stating that the number of fixed telephone subscribers in the first quarter of this year was 8.3 million, the number of natural mobile telephone subscribers was about 86 million, and the number of machine-to-machine communication (M2M) subscribers was 12.3 million, Uraloğlu said, “In the first quarter of 2026, the total traffic in mobile networks was about 71.8 billion minutes, and the traffic in fixed networks was 1.3 billion minutes. Thus, a total was over 73.1 billion Minutes of calls were made via mobile and landline connections.” he said.

Uraloğlu pointed out that about 78 percent of the total mobile phone subscribers are residential customers and 22 percent are corporate customers, emphasizing that Türkiye ranks first among the European countries surveyed with an average monthly mobile phone usage time of 439 minutes in the first quarter of this year, as in the previous period.

Porting 3.5 million subscriber numbers in three months

Uraloğlu stated that about 3.5 million mobile subscribers carried their numbers during the said period and stated that the total number of mobile numbers transferred until March 31 was about 211.3 million.

Uraloğlu pointed out that in the first quarter of this year, 21.2 million of broadband Internet customers were fixed-line customers and 78.3 million were mobile customers, saying:


“We have reached a total of 99.5 million broadband Internet subscribers. While the number of Internet subscribers increased by 2.1 percent compared to the same period last year, the largest increase was in the number of Fiber to the Home subscribers at a rate of 29.2 percent. As for the fiber optic infrastructure, the fiber optic length, which was 618,000 kilometers in the first quarter of 2025, reached 697,000 kilometers, an increase of 12.8 percent in the first quarter. By 2026, our fiber optic network will extend around the world. “It reached the length of about 17.”
