The Royal Belgian Meteorological Institute announced that an air temperature of 35.3 degrees was recorded today at the official measuring station in Uccle.
The statement said the country had experienced the hottest day of 2026 so far, surpassing the record of 33.5 degrees recorded in Belgium in 1976 on June 26.
Temperature records have been repeatedly broken in the country in the past few days. The highest temperatures ever were recorded on Wednesday June 24th and Thursday June 25th.
A temperature alarm was triggered in the country
Due to the extreme heat, a red temperature alert, the highest temperature level, is in effect today in the provinces of Liège and Limburg, while an orange alert remains in effect across most of the country.
Officials at the National Crisis Center are urging citizens to avoid going out during the hottest hours of the day, drink plenty of fluids, stay in a cool environment and pay special attention to the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.
The heatwave across the country is expected to lose its effect over the weekend.
