The General Directorate of Mapping of the Ministry of Defense and TÜBİTAK will study active fault lines

According to the statement on the Ministry of Defense's social media account, within the framework of the protocol signed between the General Directorate of Mapping and TÜBİTAK, the project aims to uncover earthquake scenarios that could affect residential areas in the regions where Turkey's active faults are located are located.

The project results will also be an important data source that can be used in updating Turkey's earthquake hazard map prepared by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

According to the statement, the project led by TÜBİTAK-Marmara Research Center will involve 14 universities and 19 executive organizations, including the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration.

As part of the project, studies will be carried out over two years with the participation of almost 200 scientists and researchers.

The General Directorate of Mapping will also provide geodetic data, digital maps and map information to the institutions included in the protocol.
