The first interest rate decision of the year will be announced on January 22nd

After the rate hike was set in January and new tariffs came into effect affecting millions of workers and pensioners across Türkiye, markets turned to the central bank.

The Monetary Policy Committee (PPK), chaired by Fatih Karahan, will hold its first meeting of the year on Thursday, January 22 and announce the interest rate decision to the public.

Economists say the possible impact of January's wage increases on domestic demand and inflation expectations will be closely monitored by the CBRT. The question of whether the bank will maintain its “strict monetary policy” to maintain the disinflation path targeted for 2026 is the focus of market players.

Expectation of “decision texts” in the markets

In addition to the interest rate decision, investors also view the guidance to be included in the decision text as critical. In particular, evidence on liquidity management, the balancing process of domestic demand and the rigidity of services inflation will guide monetary policy forecasts for the remainder of the year.

Global markets and external balances are monitored

Before the CBRT decision, the moves of global central banks, particularly the US Federal Reserve (Fed) and the European Central Bank (ECB), regarding capital flows to Turkey and exchange rate stability remained on the radar.
