The era of the “Advanced Air Traffic Control System” begins at Antalya Airport.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a written statement on the matter.

Pointing out that Antalya Airport will be put into operation with the advanced air traffic control system “Advanced ATC Tower” from May 18, Uraloğlu said: “Due to the intensive work between the State Airport Authority (DHMİ) and the network manager of EUROCONTROL, our Antalya Airport will be the first Turkish airport to be integrated into the European air traffic network with the Advanced ATC Tower concept.” gave his assessment.

Uraloğlu emphasized that the system in question enables the real-time transmission of the operational information generated in the air traffic control tower to the EUROCONTROL system, emphasizing that critical operational data such as pushback, taxiing, runway usage, takeoff order and actual takeoff time can be transmitted directly to the European air traffic network.

Pointing out that dynamic traffic management is provided by real operational data and does not rely solely on flight schedule data, Uraloğlu explained that within the framework of the system, ATC-DPI (Air Traffic Control-Departure Planning Information) messages are sent through a B2B (company-to-company) connection with EUROCONTROL.

Noting that the technical integration infrastructure in question will enable secure and automatic exchange of information between the systems of the two institutions without the need for human intervention, Uraloğlu emphasized that ATC-DPI messages will allow the transmission of up-to-date information about the take-off process of aircraft to the EUROCONTROL Network Manager system.

Stating that thanks to the system, the operational management of flights within the European air transport network will be carried out through more accurate, dynamic and real-time data, Minister Uraloğlu said, “We will manage the traffic flow at Antalya Airport more effectively, efficiently and in a coordinated manner during the busy summer season.”

Uraloğlu pointed out that the Advanced ATC Tower application represents an important transformation in terms of the transition from the classic schedule-based structure to dynamic air traffic management based on real operational data, emphasizing that the system will contribute to more effective management of flight delays, improving traffic flow management and strengthening operational coordination between airlines and air traffic control units.

Stating that due to the work carried out, Antalya Airport, which has one of the busiest tourism and charter operations in Europe, will become one of the airports that carries out one of the largest and busiest Advanced ATC Tower operations in Europe, Uraloğlu stated that Antalya will be one of Europe's most significant centers in air traffic management.

The local and national digital infrastructure ensures an uninterrupted flow of information

Stating that the local and national Electronic Flight Strip-Digital Air Traffic Controller Takeoff Clearance (EFS/DCL) infrastructure developed in collaboration with DHMI and TÜBİTAK has been further integrated into EUROCONTROL systems thanks to the Advanced ATC Tower system, Uraloğlu stated that the EFS/DCL infrastructure is currently being actively used at 35 airports in Turkey.

Minister Uraloğlu also mentioned that the EFS system allows air traffic controllers to track operational information about flights in a digital environment and made the following assessment:

“DCL, on the other hand, allows launch clearance processes to be carried out in a digital environment. Thanks to this system, the operational information flow required for the Advanced ATC Tower application is provided uninterrupted. Turkey has achieved a significant technological breakthrough in civil aviation with national software and hardware. The European air transport network is significantly strengthened.”

Stating that the certification studies of the Advanced ATC Tower at Ankara Esenboğa and Izmir Adnan Menderes Airports are continuing, Uraloğlu pointed out that these airports are scheduled to receive their certificates and start providing services this year.
