According to the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles in April 2024 fell 22.3 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 75,919 units.
In April, automobile sales fell 20.61 percent year-on-year to 61,448, while light commercial vehicle sales fell 28.6 percent to 14,471.
During the period mentioned, the automobile and light commercial vehicle market grew by 16.2 percent compared to the 10-year average sales in April.
Sales of “fully electric” cars rose by 266.2 percent
In April, the number of “fully electric” cars sold rose by 266.2 percent to 6,097. The share of fully electric cars in total sales rose from 2.2 percent to 9.9 percent compared to the same month last year, while the share of hybrid cars rose from 11.3 percent to 17.4 percent.
When looking at “Full Electric”, “Extended Range Electric” and “Hybrid” vehicles, it was found that 28.1 percent of the total market consisted of vehicles with electric motors.
Togg T10X remains market leader
Togg, which continues to gain ground among electric car brands, maintained its market leadership in April, according to ODMD data.
Togg, which sold 3,000 units in April, outsold its nearest competitor by 2,264 units.
During this period, Togg's market share in electric cars was 49.25 percent. In other words, every second electric car sold was a Togg T10X.
Looking at the 4-month data of the year, Togg's market share in electrical sales was 35.29 percent with 7,148 sales.
Best-selling electric models
Looking at the electric car market by model, SsangYong Torres with 739 units and BMW X1 with 361 units trailed the Togg T10X in April sales.
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 took fourth place with 239 units and the Volvo XC40 took fifth place with 185 units.
US-based automaker Tesla achieved 27 sales.
