Israeli attacks on Lebanon and ceasefire

The Israeli army launched heavy airstrikes on Lebanon on March 2, occupying many cities in the south of the country.

The Lebanese government announced that the number of displaced people in the country exceeded one million during this period.

In his April 24 statement, US President Donald Trump announced that the 10-day temporary ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, which came into force on April 17, has been extended for another three weeks.

As a result of the third round of talks between Lebanon and Israel on May 14 and 15 under US mediation, it was decided to extend the ceasefire for 45 days from May 17 and to hold the fourth round of talks in early June.

Despite the ceasefire, the Israeli army continues its attacks and house demolitions in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah attacks Israeli troops on the grounds that they are violating the ceasefire.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement on May 25 that he had ordered the army to step up attacks on Lebanon.
