Venezuelan National Assembly (AN) President Jorge Rodríguez issued a statement on his social media platform regarding the earthquakes.
Rodriguez said the number of people who lost their lives in the disaster increased by 157 to 4,490 and revealed that the number of injured was 16,740.
Rodriguez said that 120,000,794 families received humanitarian assistance after the earthquakes and that the number of makeshift tent cities set up in the states of Caracas and Miranda, particularly in La Guaira, which suffered the most deaths, increased to 108.
According to the national press, the Venezuelan government announced that it has begun biometric census studies to clearly identify housing needs following the earthquake disaster.
According to initial estimates, the government assumes that around 25,000 new houses will need to be built.
Two major earthquakes occurred in Venezuela
The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 occurred in Venezuela on June 24, 39 seconds apart.
In its June 26 statement, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) estimated the cost of physical damage directly caused by earthquakes at $6.7 billion.
In the country, where search and rescue efforts continue, there are concerns that the number of dead and injured will increase.
