As a result of the studies carried out by Galip Sefa İlaç Sanayi and INN Defense, the BLOOD BLOCKER Bleeding Control hemostatic agent was developed for bleeding emergencies.
BLOOD BLOCKER, which has a number of properties and benefits that distinguish it from traditional hemostatic agents, creates a protein network that, thanks to its formulation, quickly stops bleeding and completes this process in a few seconds. This speed is crucial in emergency situations where every second counts.
BLOOD BLOCKER is easy to use and store, can be stored at room temperature and works under various conditions, unlike some hemostatic agents that require a cold chain.
The bleeding is stopped by applying pressure for 15-20 seconds
Faruk İnan, Senior Manager of INN Defense, said that they are working on a solution to stop bleeding in order to minimize the negative impact of injuries and blood loss on security forces when carrying out their duties.
İnan explained that at this point they had documented the performance of the product through test results.
İnan explained that they impregnated the synthetic liquid they made into a handkerchief so that the user could easily carry it and use the product like a wet cloth. İnan explained that BLOOD BLOCKER interacts with the proteins in the blood and stops bleeding by placing it on the tip where blood circulation is disturbed and applying pressure for 15-20 seconds.
Emphasizing that the product is needed in almost all areas involving people other than security guards, İnan said: “It does not cause tissue loss in the cutting area. It also speeds up the healing process of the wound area. It ensures rapid repair of cells due to the minerals it contains. said.
İnan said that most hemostatic products in the hemostatic agent group cause cell loss and cannot prevent the development of infection, and the solution they proposed does not cause these negative effects.
İnan pointed out that another salient feature is that it is made entirely of synthetic and mineral substances, explaining that, like other products, these provide an alternative to stopping bleeding by killing, burning or cauterizing cells.
Positive results were achieved with the tested product
Explaining that they had BLOOD BLOCKER tested at the Hawaii Space Research Analog and Simulation (HI-SEAS) Center, which was established with co-funding from NASA's Human Research Program (HRP), İnan said that he carried out this study with former astrophysicist SAT command and experienced military medic Tuğçağ Dumlupınar. He said they did. Faruk Inan said:
“Tuğçağ Dumlupınar, who was selected as the lead scientist for the space exploration experiments of the Mission for the Lunar Simulation Mission (EMMIHS-2024) in HI-SEAS and became Turkey's first analog astronaut with his on-site mission, is interested in space exploration, space medicine and human Performance in Space With its focus on simulating space missions and training and simulating astronauts for ground training and mission scenarios on Earth prior to actual space missions, HI-SEAS provided the perfect environment to test our product.
The institute was asked to conduct some tests on emergency response processes. He stated that he could try our product there. With the pride of producing a national product, we concluded that conducting such a test there would bring great benefits. We supported our product because we were curious about how it would perform in a zero gravity environment. He said he had very positive results when testing the product. He also noted that the team that went to the moon did not use a hemostatic agent such as BLOOD BLOCKER in their first aid process. “In accordance with NASA's 'Spin-off Space Technology' definition and requirements, we will have registered the functionality of a Turkish-made national product in the space environment.”
Faruk İnan noted that at the end of this process, they wanted to be proud to present a product that is or can be used in space exploration and travel.
İnan explained that they made the product mainly for the security forces and that they would also make a product in the form of an adhesive tape that could be easily used for civilian purposes and household needs.
His appearance attracted attention
The test, conducted at the HI-SEAS space research facility, aimed to replicate the conditions of the Moon and Mars missions.
The experimental title in the research was set as “Space Medicine: Hemostatic Agent Evaluation for Lunar Simulation Conditions.” The aim was to comprehensively understand how various parameters of human physiology, such as blood clotting and wound healing, are influenced by these diseases.
The results of the study demonstrated the successful performance of the hemostatic agent Blood Blocker in controlling bleeding and demonstrated the product's effectiveness as a critical tool for managing medical emergencies in space. In particular, comparisons of hemoglobin levels between the start and end of the mission demonstrated the reliability of the product at different mission durations.
Additionally, the results highlighted the product's effectiveness on different crew members with different hemoglobin levels and demonstrated its suitability for different astronaut populations.
