Strategic product increases both production and productivity in cannabis

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's statements and strategic products that are among the strategic products to increase the production and productivity of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Work.

According to the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (Turkstat), hemp production in the country and the studies carried out in this area have increased recently.

Production in hemp seeds rose by 70 percent compared to the previous year in the previous year and reached 556 tons of 327 tons. Production was 273 tons in 2020. Production in hemp seeds after a wavy course has reached 1335 tons in the past 5 years.

In the period in question, an increase in the production of cannabis fibers was observed. The production that was 9 tons in 2020 was calculated in 2021, 31 tons in 2022 and 359 tons in the previous year as 21 tons. Last year, hemp fiber production increased by 238.7 percent compared to the previous year.

The cannabis cultivation areas rose in seeds and fiber.

The cannabis fiber Cult area, 101 Decares last year in 2020, rose 8,000 decares. During this period of 4 thousand 252 decaris of 7 thousand 206 decares, hemp seeds increased.

Projects are developed from medicine to textiles

The production of cannabis, which is accepted as a strategic product, rose after President Erdoğan had stated that studies in this area were initiated. Studies on cannabis have been intensified under the coordination of the Ministry of Agriculture and forestry. The relevant institutions and organizations focused on new projects.

Under the control of the Earth Grain Office (TMO), the study for the production and processing of cannabis was initiated for the active ingredient.

General Directorate for Agricultural Research and Guidelines (Tagem), the project is carried out as part of the F&E Support program in cooperation with the university and the private sector. In this context, studies continue to produce the thermoset and thermoplastic matrix and thermoplastic matrix matrix composite materials, in which linen, hemp and nettle fibers are used as a reinforcement element that are to be used in irrigation systems and drainage materials.

In cooperation with Tagem, Tubitak and Ondokuz Mayıs University, a “Tetrahidrocannabinol (THC)” ratio was initiated. As part of the project, two new seeds called “Narli” and “Grand Wesir”, which developed from cannabis breeding activities, developed in 2021. New studies are still being carried out for the production of cannabis with a high fiber ratio.

Studies in the private sector are carried out in particular in textile and automotive numbers to produce products with more cannabis.
