Russia: There is progress in the negotiation process with the USA to resolve the Ukraine crisis

At her weekly press conference in the capital Moscow, Sakharova commented on current issues.

Assessing the negotiation process between Russia and the US to resolve the Ukraine crisis, Zaharova said: “The negotiation process with the US on the Ukraine issue is progressing slowly. But there is progress in this process.” he said.

Pointing out that European countries are trying to undermine this process, Zaharova said: “We call on our American colleagues to oppose these destructive actions during the dialogue process we are conducting. We are ready to continue our work within the framework established at the highest level in the city of Anchorage.” he said.

Assessing the European approach to resolving the Ukraine crisis, Zaharova said: “European and Western European supporters of the Kiev government, especially the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom, do not think about peace. They only think about the money that they send to Kiev and get back later. They are still in favor of escalating the situation. For this reason, they want the conflicts to last until the last Ukrainian.” he said.

“We condemn the actions of the USA in the Caribbean”

Zakharova criticized US actions in the Caribbean, saying:

“We are witnessing lawlessness in the Caribbean. Practices such as piracy, robbery and banditry, as well as illegal confiscation of property, are being revived here. We strongly condemn such cases and call on us to ensure maritime stability and law and order. We are in favor of reducing tensions, maintaining trusting relationships and ensuring predictability. It is important to prevent a devastating scenario.”

Zaharova shared the hope that the situation will be resolved within the norms of international law and said that she supports the Venezuelan government's initiatives to protect sovereignty and national interests.

Spokeswoman Zakharova said the Russian embassy in Caracas remained operational.

Zakharova expressed hope that the Commission in Kazakhstan will soon complete the investigation process into the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) passenger plane on December 25, 2024 near the city of Aktau.

Zaharova assessed Sweden's arrest of the Russian-flagged ship “Adler,” saying it was “unfounded.”
