According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, total electricity production in the month in question was 28.14 billion kilowatt hours, with 41.4 percent of electricity production in April coming from hydroelectric power plants.
This increase in hydraulic production also renewed the electricity production record in the renewable energy sector.
A total of 11.66 billion kilowatt hours of electricity were produced from hydroelectric power plants last month. Electricity production from renewable sources was recorded at 19.85 billion kilowatt hours and electricity production from domestic sources was recorded at 23.35 billion kilowatt hours.
During this period, the share of domestic electricity generation was 83 percent and the share of electricity generation from renewable sources was 70.5 percent in April.
In March 2025, the highest renewable electricity production ever was achieved at 19.46 billion kilowatt hours, with 2/3 of the total electricity production coming from renewable sources.
The highest values were also achieved in the first 4 months of data
In the first 4 months of the year, the hydraulically generated electricity production value was 34.7 billion kilowatt hours, the highest hydraulic production value ever.
In addition, total domestic electricity production in the first 4 months was recorded at 83.43 billion kilowatt hours and renewable electricity production was recorded at 68.41 billion kilowatt hours, the highest ever in terms of volume in comparable periods.
Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, whose views were included in the statement, stated that they have built a domestic and sustainable energy infrastructure with hydroelectric power plants accounting for the largest share of the installed renewable energy capacity, adding:
“With the electricity we obtain from our own resources, we reduce our dependence on foreign sources, ensure our security of supply and take decisive steps towards our net-zero emissions target for 2053. With the abundance of rainfall, we achieved the highest hydraulic production level ever with the production of 11.66 billion kilowatt hours of electricity from hydropower in April. We covered 41.4 percent of our country's total electricity production with the power of water alone. In doing so, we increased the Share of renewable energies in our total production.” to a record 70.5 percent: “We will continue to convert our water into energy and our energy into the well-being of our nation.”
