Qatar: US officials will meet with mediators, not Iranians, in Doha

Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid bin Mohammed al-Ansari emphasized at the press conference in the capital Doha that technical negotiations between the US and Iran have not stopped and said that, like Qatar, they prioritize safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and clearing mines.

Ansari stressed that US representatives Kushner and Witkoff were in Doha but would meet with mediators and not Iranian officials, saying: “There is no decision for a high-level meeting between the US and Iran.” he said.

Ansari noted that Iran's frozen $6 billion fund has not yet been transferred to Tehran, saying: “This amount is subject to the 2023 agreement intended for the purchase of humanitarian supplies.” he said.

Ansari explained that the transfer of the frozen Iranian funds would be decided as a result of negotiations between both parties.

Ansari explained that the direct line of communication established to ease tensions in the Strait of Hormuz had been used to calm recent conflicts:

“We are in coordination with the Sultanate of Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz and the safe passage of ships. We appreciate France's participation in the cleanup of the Strait of Hormuz.”

Ensari stressed that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the resumption of navigation were extremely important issues, saying: “Freedom of navigation at sea is a guaranteed right of all Gulf states. Closure or threat is unacceptable.” he said.

Ansari stressed that no one should prevent passage through the Strait of Hormuz, saying that the current focus is on ensuring that security and peace in the region return to the state they were in before the war.
