The statement from the Press and Public Relations Advisory Office of the Ministry of Commerce said: “As the Ministry of Commerce, we continue our market surveillance and inspection activities with determination to ensure our citizens' access to safe products and protect public health.” As a result of the inspections, it was found that the “Mobidus-Ruppert” brass pencil sharpener contained lead in excess of the limits.
It has been decided that the placing on the market and recall of the product in question, which has been found to pose a chemical risk, will be prohibited under the relevant legislation. Full compliance with safety criteria, especially in stationery that our children use in daily life, is of great importance to protect public health. “In this respect, we do not tolerate any product on the market that could endanger the health of our children,” he said.
Stating that product safety inspections are being carried out effectively, Kaplan said: “We are immediately taking the necessary administrative actions for products that do not meet the safety criteria. We will continue our inspections with determination, with the understanding of safe production, safe trade and safe consumption, which puts the health of our citizens first; we will continue to act with an uncompromising inspection approach, especially for products affecting babies, children and sensitive consumer groups.”
