Prof., Head of Computer Engineering Cyber Security Department of Istanbul-Cerrahpaşa University, who came to Kırklareli to attend a program. Dr. Muhammed Ali Aydın emphasized that the memory function of internet browsers, which prevents users from re-entering their passwords, poses significant security risks.
Aydın, who recommends not accepting cookies on websites as much as possible, said: “When accessing data or a system on a computer, the search engine on the computer sometimes provides the option to save our passwords so that we do not have to enter them repeatedly. This should not be done because they are written in cookies. This is a nice feature, but if it is hacked in an attack, systems will be entered through these sessions. Therefore, regular cleaning of cookies is extremely important.” he said.
Aydın explained that the two-step verification method should be used to protect data and files and secure access to systems.
Stating that public Internet networks pose significant risks to the security of personal data, Aydın said that systems containing personal data such as mobile banking and e-government should not be accessed through these networks.
Stating that social networks are like a manual for attackers, Aydın pointed out that passwords that are not easy to guess should be preferred when logging into systems.
Aydin stated that passwords must be at least 10 characters long and contain punctuation marks, numbers, and upper and lower case letters.
“Face ID and fingerprint are question marks when it comes to cyber intelligence”
Aydın stated that in view of the development of technology, passwords should be stored on mobile phones, computers and tablets for security reasons, and stated that login methods using biometric data are becoming more and more common.
Pointing out that facial recognition and fingerprint login methods provide easy access to devices, Aydın shared the following information:
“Using Face ID instead of a password is an opportunity for security measures. However, if the application is not yours, the manufacturer captures your face and fingerprint. Face ID and fingerprint are advantages in terms of personal security, but a question mark in terms of cyber intelligence.”
For the end user, these methods can be used for security reasons, but I recommend using strong passwords when possible. For security reasons, login methods with biometric data will continue to be used.”
