“Overpriced” fine of 389.5 million TL for 1258 companies

The Unfair Price Assessment Panel operating under the Ministry of Commerce continued its investigations and inspections into practices that disrupt the fair competitive environment and consumer welfare in the market in four separate meetings held in the first four months of 2026.

As a result of the inspections, an administrative penalty of 389 million 430 thousand 962.50 TL was imposed on a total of 1258 companies.

A total of 215 million 115 thousand 676.50 TL was donated to 330 companies that were found to have made extraordinary price increases in fruits and vegetables.

A total of 151 million 718 thousand 280 TL was applied to 840 companies that took advantage of import restrictions on foreign e-commerce marketplaces and increased prices on local platforms, and a total of 12 million 953 thousand 700 TL was applied to 75 companies that sold against the tariff rate during checks on bread and bagel products.

During the inspections of basic food and consumer goods, a total of 9 million 643 thousand 310 TL administrative penalties were imposed on 13 companies that exorbitantly increased prices.

The ministry's statement said: “Especially ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Adha, shopping malls, chain markets, retail outlets selling food and holiday products, bus stations and wholesale centers where our citizens travel are under strict monitoring by our Ministry of Commerce, and any practices that may cause discontent among our consumers will be carefully investigated.”

The statement emphasized that the necessary administrative sanctions against companies found during inspections to violate the legislation will be determined and implemented within the powers granted by the legislation.
