With the successful completion of Turkey's first manned space mission, all eyes turned to new steps. In order to quickly achieve the goals that will bring the country to the top league, from the second manned space expedition to the ship to be sent to the moon, from the base to be built in Ankara to the cosmodrome, are experts in their field was assigned to TUA staff.
The “space team”, including Turkey's first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı, Elvan Kuzucu Hıdır, Chairman of the Board of Turkey Technology Team Foundation (T3 Foundation), one of the organizers of TEKNOFEST, and Mehmet Nefes, Director of TÜBİTAK Space Technologies Research Institute ( TÜBİTAK UZAY is a Company that, while focused on strategic projects, will also play a leading role in the development of space awareness in society.
In addition to these names, Arif Karabeyoğlu, General Manager of DeltaV Uzay Teknolojileri AŞ, İsmail Doğan, Vice President of TÜBİTAK, and Alper Güzel, Member of the Board of Trustees of T3 Foundation, also participated in the management of TUA.
The specialized personnel will ensure that the objectives of the “National Space Program” are implemented step by step within the framework of the ongoing work announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and under the coordination of Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır.
The appointments are expected to help Turkey achieve its space goals and gain a greater share of the global space economy, which is expected to reach $1 trillion in the future.
Second manned space mission in April
While the National Space Program was planned for the period 2022-2030, it aimed to closely monitor developments in this area worldwide.
As part of the program announced in 2021, Alper Gezeravcı was sent to the International Space Station for the first time on January 19 to conduct 13 scientific experiments. This completed the first manned space mission. The aim is to strengthen this mission with the low orbit flight of the second astronaut Tuva Cihangir Atasever in April.
Minister Kacır also said on this topic: “Our first manned space mission has brought significant progress to the research of our scientists in the disciplines of biology, medicine, genetics, physics and materials science.” He used the expression.
Access to the moon will occur in 2026
It is expected that TUA's increased staff will play an important role in quickly achieving further goals.
Making the first contact with the moon, creating a brand that can compete with the world in the field of new generation satellite development, developing Turkey's regional positioning and timing system, providing access to space and establishing a spaceport business, B .in the field of space weather or meteorology. These include increasing competence here through investments, advancing Turkey to an advanced level in astronomical observations and ground tracking of space objects, further developing the space industry ecosystem in the country and establishing a space technology development zone.
It is planned that all processes in the first spacecraft developed with the lunar research program will be completed in 2026 and the vehicle will be launched. Within the framework of AYAP-1, the first phase of the program, the goal is to explore the Moon from orbit and make the first contact with the surface, and in the second phase, the AYAP-2 project aims to land a Moon from rover on the surface using the soft landing method.
The independent access to space program will also continue. Launch vehicle development projects continue. The goal is therefore to build a spaceport in international cooperation by 2030.
A national low-orbit satellite production program will also be launched. In this area, projects from the public, academic and private sectors are supported.
