New peak of installed electricity capacity in Türkiye

According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, renewable energy accounted for 78,377 megawatts, accounting for 62.5 percent of total installed electricity capacity. The share of domestic resources was 71.7 percent.

The share of solar energy in installed electricity output rose to 21.3 percent with 26,769 megawatts. The wind share reached 15,000 75 megawatts and was 12 percent.

The total installed capacity from solar and wind energy rose to 41,844 megawatts in April with a share of 33.3 percent. Thus, 1/3 of the total installed capacity, which reached 125,000 410 megawatts, consisted of wind and solar energy alone.

A record is expected for renewable energies

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, whose views were included in the statement, said: “We have achieved an installed capacity of 26,769 megawatts from zero in solar alone in the last 13 years. At the end of this year, solar energy will overtake hydropower and reach the top in total installed capacity.”

Bayraktar stated that the installed power capacity continues to increase, noting that renewable energy, which makes a significant contribution to Türkiye's 2035 Net Zero Emission target, is increasingly taking a place in the installed capacity.

Recalling that they broke a record with the wind and solar power plants put into operation in 2024, Bayraktar said, “I hope that we will break a new record in this field with the 2025 Renewable Energy Investment Mass Opening Ceremony that we will hold next week in the presence of our President (Recep Tayyip Erdoğan).”
