According to a statement from the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), a Science Café event on Alzheimer's was organized by AFSU's Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurology.
YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar said in his speech here that the contribution of universities to public health is not limited to the health services they provide.
Özvar pointed out that universities also play a diverse role with the scientific research they conduct, drug development studies, innovative treatment approaches and activities to increase awareness of healthy lifestyles in society, saying: “While the knowledge gained through scientific communication activities is made available to society, our universities stand out as institutions that both produce solutions and guide the future in the field of health.” he said.
AFSU Rector Prof. Dr. Adem Aslan explained that Alzheimer's is a chronic disease that occurs more often in old age and affects the brain.
Aslan explained that there is no protocol to fully treat the disease in the world, but there are studies, pointing out that AFSU and Eskişehir Anadolu University are working on molecules that may be more effective than the drugs currently used. Aslan said: “I hope the results will be good. These are long-term studies.” he said.
Aslan emphasized the importance of a healthy diet in the early stages to prevent the disease and recommended staying away from processed foods.
