According to a statement on NASA's website, the second of the year-long Mars Habitat experiments, called the Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analogue (CHAPEA), will begin in the spring of next year.
Applications have been submitted for the four-person team that will take part in the second of three experiments being conducted at NASA facilities in Houston, Texas.
In the second year-long Mars Habitat experiment, there will be difficulties that volunteers may encounter during the Mars mission, such as resource shortages, equipment failures, communication delays and other environmental stressors.
Some tasks are expected from the team
During the experiment, the volunteer team is expected to undertake tasks such as moonwalks, robotic operations, habitat management, exercises and growing crops.
The volunteers will live in a 3D-printed animal shelter called Mars Dunes Alpha.
What are the application requirements?
Applicants for CHAPEA's second mission are expected to be healthy, non-smokers, Americans or residents of the country, between 30 and 55 years old, have sufficient English language skills for tasks and team communication, and meet the necessary university requirements and experience.
NASA announced that participants in the experiment will be paid a “fee” and applications will be received by April 2nd.
On the other hand, the first of three experiments that will last a year started on June 25, 2023.
