Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık met with press representatives working in the province at a hotel in Quiet City Akyaka District of Ula District on the occasion of Working Journalists' Day on January 10.
Akbıyık said in his statement here that tourists from many countries come to Muğla and that the guests who received the best possible hospitality leave the city happy.
Pointing out that the number of tourists has increased compared to last year, Akbıyık said, “Muğla continues to be one of the most important tourism centers of our country and the world. In our city, which has attracted great attention.” Local and foreign tourists in 2024, not only marine tourism, but also sports, culture, “There have also been major developments in alternative types of tourism such as health and gastronomy,” he said.
Expressing that blue cruises, unique bays and ancient cities provide visitors with unique experiences, Akbıyık noted that efforts to strengthen the diving tourism infrastructure in the city have also been accelerated in order to expand tourism to four seasons.
The number of visitors to the museum and historic site exceeded one million in 2024
Emphasizing that they are striving to strengthen Muğla's position in health tourism and make the city a center of attraction in the field of health tourism, Akbıyık said:
“2024 was a year in which we achieved record tourism figures. We started our work before the end of the year to make 2025 more productive in terms of tourism in Muğla, which hosts a total of more than 10 million tourists, i.e. 3 million 700 thousand. Of these, foreigners are. We have reached 250,000 tourists in cruise tourism. “Due to our efforts to develop our country’s cultural tourism infrastructure, the number of visitors to museums and ruins exceeded in 2024.”
Akbıyık pointed out that significant developments have taken place in the field of gastronomy and pointed out that Muğla is the second city in the “Michelin” selection after Istanbul with 31 restaurants.
Akbıyık stated that Muğla is one of the country's leading provinces in the agricultural sector and that it is at the top of the country's rankings in many areas, from olives to citrus, from greenhouse cultivation to honey production.
“An area of 220 hectares was damaged in the fires”
Governor Akbıyık also addressed the forest fires in the city at the meeting.
Stating that there were 381 forest fires and 294 agricultural fires in Muğla last year, Akbıyık said, “As a result of the fires, an area of 220 hectares was damaged and planted in the ground, while 285 hectares of area were reforested,” he said.
Akbıyık also informed about the ministries' investments in Muğla and its districts.
