Minister Uraloğlu: We hope to start the development path this year

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said that they hope to start the development road this year.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a press statement after meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali ez-Zeydi in Baghdad.

Stating that the development road project has been completed, Minister Uraloğlu said, “We have seen how valuable the transport corridors are in terms of connectivity in normal and extraordinary situations. The Russia-Ukraine war in our north, Iraq in our region and the Iran-US and Israel conflicts, which are very close to us. There are lessons to be learned from them. We have already foreseen them on how to deal with moments of crisis.” he said.

Stating that the development road project is also the focus of his visit today, Uraloğlu said: “We can say that the project is completed, there are only minor defects left, we can evaluate it at the time of completion.” he said.

Uraloğlu pointed out that the Iraqi prime minister had made proposals to finance the project and said he expected them to be decided upon in his meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his visit to Türkiye.

“We hope to start the development path this year”

“This year in Turkey we call it 'laying the foundation', and in Iraq the prime minister says, 'Let's lay the first stone'. That means starting work.” Uraloğlu said:

“If we can manage the process properly, there is no obstacle in front of us and there is a very clear will, we hope to start the development path this year. We have also discussed with the Iraqi Minister of Communications about the fiber optic networks that should be included in the project. We want to complete the development path within the deadline of one hand.”

Minister Uraloğlu had discussed the development path and related bilateral issues with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Zeydi, his Iraqi counterpart Veheb Selman Muhammed and Iraqi Communications Minister Mustafa Sened in Baghdad.
