Minister Işıkhan: The unemployment rate has fallen to the lowest level since 2012

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan attended the opening of the “Regional Career Fair for the Production Age of Youth” at Gaziantep University (GAÜN) Mavera Congress and Arts Center.

In his speech here, Işıkhan explained that regional career fairs are an important platform that has been implemented since 2019 under the coordination of the President's Personnel Office and in collaboration with universities, public institutions, the private sector and professional chambers.

Stating that the fair was organized for high school graduates and university students to get to know the business world more closely and establish direct contact with employers, Işıkhan said that the fair sheds light on thousands of young people.

Regarding the importance of fairs, Işıkhan said: “Since 2013, we have organized a total of 489 employment fairs, of which 263 were virtual and 226 physical. 8.5 million citizens attended these fairs, in which about 29,000 companies participated. With our regional career fairs, we will expand this experience even further.” he said.

Emphasizing that they support students who want to do an internship, Işıkhan said: “We aim for another 800,000 young people to complete an internship through the internship portal and İŞKUR's national internship program in the next three years. We cover the wage and bonus costs during the internship and provide consulting support to companies. We have allocated a resource of 26 billion lira for this.” he said.

Stating that they are preparing to implement the “First Step to Work Program” for young people who will enter the workforce for the first time, Işıkhan said: “We support the wages and insurance premiums of our young people aged 18 to 25 who work in the private sector for a certain period of time. In this way, we aim to provide employers with more opportunities for young people and enable our young people to gain their first work experience more easily. We expect that 750,000 young people will do this.” Benefit from this support in three years. We have allocated 243 billion lira for this program. shared his knowledge.

Pointing out that Turkey's economy is growing day by day, Işıkhan concluded his words as follows:

“The unemployment rate, which was 8.3 percent last year, fell to the lowest level since 2012. During the same period, the female unemployment rate fell by 0.5 points compared to the previous year to 11.3 percent. The youth unemployment rate fell by 1 point to 15.3 percent, the lowest level since 2005. We will continue to receive positive results from the programs we are implementing to increase the participation of women and young people in the workforce day by day. Very Dear Sir, under the leadership of our President, Turkey will become stronger as our youth and our working life become stronger. High value-added production, increased productivity and global competitiveness, which are the main goals of our Turkey Century vision, will build on the strong workforce of our young people.

Gaziantep Governor Kemal Çeber also advised young people to continue their education.

GAUN Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sait Doğan stated that they are pleased to host this important program for young people.

After the speeches, Işıkhan and his entourage cut the opening ribbon and then visited the stands of the Ministry of Defense, where personnel and military student recruitment activities were explained to young people, as well as the stands of other public institutions, defense industry companies and private sector representatives.
