Minister Ersoy: A nine-day Eid al-Adha holiday would be positive for tourism

Eid al-Adha is approaching. It is not yet clear whether the holiday will last 9 days or not.

Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy also made a statement on this issue in Aydın on the occasion of the opening of the Türkiye Culture Road Festival.

Minister Ersoy said: “A nine-day holiday would be very positive in terms of tourism, but this is a decision that needs to be discussed and made in the cabinet.”

Assessing the tourism sector, Minister Ersoy said: “We live in a crisis-prone region. We must make the sector immune to crises.”

Ersoy continued his words as follows:

“Turkey has repeatedly reiterated that it is an 'island of stability'. Our president and our diplomacy are currently called 'peacemakers'. Turkey is actually the country that wants to bring peace. Without peace you cannot bring stability. I think this has a strong positive impact on the perception of the Türkiye.”

Assessing the impact of the exchange rate policy on tourism revenues, Ersoy said: “Our priority is to reduce inflation. Each sector must make its own sacrifices.”

Minister Ersoy said the following about tourism data:

“We are increasing our tourism revenue every year; at the end of 2017 it was $32 billion, last year it rose to $65 billion. We rose from 8th to 4th in the world in visitor numbers, from 15th to 7th in revenue.”
