Chief of General Staff Zamir told the conference involving the highest levels of the Israeli army that “they remain prepared and vigilant for a return to conflict” on all fronts, including Iran and Lebanon.
“2026 is expected to continue to be a year of conflict on all fronts.” Zamir stressed that the occupation, which the army calls the forward defense areas in the Gaza Strip, Syria and Lebanon, will continue “until the security of the settlements in northern Israel is guaranteed.”
Zamir also touched on the looting of towns and villages occupied by Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon and the attack on the statue of Jesus Christ, admitting that there had been an erosion of army discipline in recent years.

Zamir also claimed that an Israeli soldier's attack on the statue of Jesus Christ in southern Lebanon contradicted his army's values.
The photo of the statue of Jesus Christ smashed with a sledgehammer by an Israeli soldier in the city of Deir Seryan in southern Lebanon was shared on social media, and the Israeli army accepted the authenticity of the photo and announced that it had opened an investigation.
The Israeli soldier's behavior towards the religious symbol caused a major reaction in the Christian world.
While the killer, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, subsequently apologized for the incident, it was announced that the two soldiers who destroyed and photographed the statue of Jesus Christ were suspended from combat duty and taken into military custody for 30 days.
