In his written statement, Minister Uraloğlu informed about the SİMURAY-KBÜ project, which was developed by Karabük University and is entitled to support from the Center for Transportation, Maritime and Communications Research (UDHAM).
Uraloğlu stated that the project will develop a realistic vehicle cabin simulation system for rail systems based on domestic software and hardware for train driver training. Uraloğlu stated that in this context, a training platform will be established within Eskipazar Vocational School of Karabük University.
Uraloğlu explained that the platform in question will consist of a physical machinist's cabin, in-cab control systems, visual driving simulation software, a driving instructor control and monitoring interface, an artificial intelligence-supported performance evaluation module and training scenarios.
Emphasizing that the project will provide students with training in an environment close to real train driving, Uraloğlu said: “With the SIMURAY-KBÜ project, our train driver candidates will be able to experience real driving conditions during the training process. Our candidates will learn speed control, braking, signal tracking, station approach, attitude sensitivity, emergency management and operational decision-making processes in a laboratory environment.” gave his assessment.
Real-time data communication is established
Uraloğlu informed that the project will establish real-time data communication between the programmable logic controller (PLC) and the microcontroller-based control infrastructure and simulation software, and the commands issued through physical controllers will be directly transmitted to the simulation environment.
Emphasizing that in this way driving behaviors such as acceleration, deceleration, braking, signal tracking and station approaching can be applied interactively, Uraloğlu explained that students will undergo a training process that is close to real operating conditions before graduating.
Performance is measured using artificial intelligence
Uraloğlu emphasized that with the artificial intelligence-supported assessment system to be developed, students' driving performance will be analyzed and the educational process will become more efficient and measurable.
Stating that the Rail System Technologies and Driving Simulation Laboratory to be established at Karabük University will provide application-oriented training in the areas of human-machine interaction, signal awareness, in-vehicle systems and passenger safety, as well as driver training, Uraloğlu stated that the project will strengthen educational and research capacities in the field of rail systems.
Stating that the project is among the 29 projects eligible for support under the Rail System Technologies Tender Program implemented by UDHAM and has a total budget of 500 million lira, Uraloğlu pointed out that they aim to develop local and national technologies in rail systems, increase R&D capacity and strengthen the international competitiveness of the sector.
