News from the Italian agency ANSA, based on ministry sources, said that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani issued some instructions through the ministry's crisis department after the Italian Foreign Ministry received information that Israeli military units were approaching the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was sailing towards Gaza.
Tajani contacted the Italian embassies in Tel Aviv and Athens and contacted the relevant authorities of the two countries; It was explained that he had instructed to take measures to obtain information to clarify the scope of the operation and to ensure the protection of Italian citizens on the boats.
Global Sumud Fleet
The global Sumud fleet's “Spring Mission 2026,” aimed at breaking Israel's blockade of Gaza and transporting humanitarian aid there, departed from Barcelona, Spain, for Gaza on April 12 and sailed again to the Mediterranean on April 26, increasing the number of boats with new additions to the Italian island of Sicily on the route.
The Israeli press had announced that the Israeli Navy began intervening in the global Sumud fleet in the international waters of the Mediterranean on the evening of April 29th.
In the first attempt of the global Sumud fleet in September 2025, the Israeli army illegally stopped the fleet in the international waters of the Mediterranean, forcibly boarded the boats, arrested the volunteers and brought them to Israel.
