In the first quarter, support payments amounting to 35.6 billion lira were made to farmers

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry continues its efforts to support producers in strengthening agricultural production. The ministry supports producers in crop and animal production, rural development, agricultural research and development, and aquaculture production.

2.9 million farmers benefit from subsidies

In this context, 2.9 million farmers benefit from agricultural supports in the ministry's registration systems. The agricultural support budget for this year was set at 167 billion 635 million lira. In the first three months, around 35 billion 643 million lira were paid to farmers.

87 percent of payments during this period were recorded as support for crop production, 8.8 percent for livestock production, 2.9 percent for rural development, 0.9 percent for agricultural research and development and 0.4 percent for aquaculture production.

In the January-March period, covering the first quarter of the year, support totaling 31 billion 16 million lira was provided for crop production, 3 billion 148 million lira for animal production, 1 billion 23 million lira for rural development, 315 million lira for agricultural research and development and 140 million lira for aquaculture production.

As part of the promotion of crop production, “basic and planned production (fodder crops)” received the most support; in the context of the promotion of animal production, “beekeeping” and “raw milk” were supported.

Most payments were made for “Aquaculture” to support aquaculture production, “Animal genetic resources” to support agricultural research and development, and “Investments in rural development” under rural development support.

Details about the supports

Looking at the details of the supports in question, in the first quarter of the year, 27 billion 297 million liras were paid for basic support to farmers, 2 billion 608 million liras for planned production, about 72 million 844 thousand liras for the use of certified seeds and 1 billion 38 million liras for other supports to support crop production.

In animal production, 1 billion 364 million lira was paid for beekeeping, 1 billion 327 million lira for raw milk support, 413 million lira for animal disease compensation and 44 million 103,000 lira for other supports. As part of aquaculture production, 140 million lira were allocated for aquaculture.

Within the framework of agricultural R&D support, during the same period, 315 million lira were paid for animal genetic resources, 972 million lira for rural development investments within the framework of rural development support and about 51 million lira for national IPARD co-financing.
