AFAD began its work on November 10, 2023 as part of the project it initiated to locate the materials used in search and rescue operations. Presidency officials met with businessmen in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir and introduced the materials used in search and rescue operations.

Industrialists demanded the production of equipment and materials that fell within their scope of work.

Companies that began their research and development studies by providing samples used equipment and materials used in search and rescue operations and previously imported from Germany, the USA, Finland, the Netherlands, France and England, such as lifting cushions, tripods , masks, batteries, helmets and ventilators , decontamination equipment, including the solution and the wreck imaging device.

“Our goal is to locate every material”

AFAD Search and Rescue Department Head Kartal Muhçı made statements on the details of the project at the Presidential Building, where local search and rescue equipment and materials are exhibited.

Stating that most of the materials and equipment used in search and rescue operations in the past were supplied from abroad, Muhçı said that the localization of the equipment will facilitate accessibility and make a significant economic contribution to Turkey.

Muhçı said: “Currently, 14 of the 34 items that can be considered practical equipment of search and rescue personnel have been produced locally and nationally. We have carried out the tests and received positive results,” said.

Emphasizing that AFAD has a supportive stance in the localization of search and rescue equipment, Muhçı said, “Our goal is to provide 100 percent of the equipment and devices locally in this project,” he said.

Explaining the features of the domestically produced equipment, Muhçı said: “Lifting cushions were supplied by a foreign company, especially to the whole world. These were cushions with a lifting capacity of 2.5 to 84 tons, the smallest of which was available. A company.” “We brought it, we tested it, we checked it. “They really made a great product,” he said.

Pointing out that AFAD has a wide variety of materials and equipment, Muhçı said:

“If there is an earthquake, flood or avalanche in a country, Turkish teams are the first to run. We would like to use our local materials for search and rescue operations abroad. Now Turkish industrialists and businessmen say: 'We are there, including for the materials used in search and rescue operations.'” he will say.
