Gölbaşı Data Center will be Türkiye's artificial intelligence base

The foundation of GVM was laid yesterday as part of the project developed with the vision of “Türkiye's data stays in Türkiye”.

The center, which once completed will ensure that critical public data is protected to the highest security standards, is among the strategic investments that will strengthen Türkiye's capabilities in digital sovereignty and cybersecurity.

The center, which will be implemented by TÜRKSAT AŞ, an affiliated organization of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, aims to securely store public data on domestic infrastructures in accordance with international standards and contribute to Türkiye becoming a regional data center base.

The data center, which was planned in the design phase based on the Uptime Tier III and EN 50600 Class 3 standards, is expected to be among the largest data centers in Turkey in terms of construction size, empty space capacity, number of cabinets and total installed power, and will be the largest data center used for public services.

The facility, which will have a total construction area of 35,300 square meters, will have a data center building of 28,500 square meters and a white area of 6,300 square meters. The center's total installed capacity will be 33 megavolts and the total information technology (IT) capacity will be 18 megawatts.

The data center will include 6 standard system rooms and 2 HPC (high performance computing) rooms for high-performance artificial intelligence applications. The system, with a total capacity of 1,630 cabinets, will deliver 10 kilowatts of power in standard cabinets and 40 kilowatts in artificial intelligence rooms.

This makes the data center one of the important bases for Türkiye's plans for artificial intelligence.

The commissioning of the first phase of the project is scheduled for the first quarter of 2028. 530 standard cabinets, 20 infrastructure cabinets for artificial intelligence and 7 megawatts of IT power will be put into operation.

Public resources are used more efficiently

The aim of TÜRKSAT Gölbaşı Data Center is to meet the IT infrastructure needs of public institutions from a single center, prevent double investments and use public resources more efficiently.

The project aims to contribute to uninterrupted and high-quality delivery of e-government services and support Türkiye's development into a regional center for data storage, processing and transmission.

It is planned to provide cloud computing, artificial intelligence, big data solutions, cybersecurity, hosting and storage services through the center.

It is positioned as a “digital lock”.

In the modern understanding of the state, data centers are not only technical storage areas, but also “digital castles” that protect strategic decision-making mechanisms and public order. The data center in question will ensure that important public data is stored in Turkey, making data security an integral part of the national security strategy.

The project was based on three key strategic elements: security, scalability and data sovereignty.

While the data center provides an infrastructure that ensures operational continuity even in times of crisis, its capacity of over 76,000 RU units (rack) and its modular structure allow it to be expanded depending on future data needs.

Not only TÜRKSAT, but also public institutions will use it

The project aims to reduce technological dependence on foreign countries and strengthen national capacities against cyber threats by keeping critical public data within Turkey's borders and protected by domestic technology infrastructures.

It is envisaged that TÜRKSAT Gölbaşı Data Center will provide solutions in areas such as high installation and operation costs in public facilities, capacity planning problems, inadequate cybersecurity measures, data sharing difficulties, business continuity deficiencies and energy efficiency.

The center will ensure that not only TÜRKSAT, but also Türkiye's largest institutions and organizations receive safe and uninterrupted service even in exceptional situations.
